LastPass for Android Is Lookin' Good: Material Design Updates & Samsung Galaxy Gifts

Today, we’re excited to introduce you to the redesigned LastPass for Android! With a new interface centered around Google’s Material Design and many enhancements to the user experience, this is arguably the biggest update to our Android app yet. We’ve simplified mobile password management, for an easier, faster LastPass experience.

Plus, we’re thrilled to announce that we’ve partnered with Samsung to bring LastPass to Galaxy S6 and S6 edge device owners as a part of the Galaxy Gifts program! If you’ll be upgrading to one of Samsung’s beautiful new phones, be sure to check out Galaxy Gifts in the Galaxy Apps store and redeem your LastPass Premium credit.

New Designgiftest

For this update to our Android app, we wanted to deliver a design that was simpler, easier to navigate, and built for the unique needs of mobile password management. We adopted many of the paradigms of Material Design, including the floating action button in the lower right-hand corner of the vault. Whenever you log in to or launch the LastPass app, the + button is conveniently located to quickly store a new item in LastPass. Tapping the + triggers a pop-up menu with options to add a new Site, a Secure Note, or a Form Fill profile. We also introduced more white space and a simpler color palette, for easy-to-read screens with a design that's lighter and more intuitive. And of course, there have also been a number of bug fixes and stability improvements in this update. Thanks to our community and our pre-build team for your reports and input!

Easier Navigation

We’ve also condensed and simplified our menus and the main navigation has been moved to the left drawer. This convention is consistent with Google’s updated apps and others that have adopted Material Design. You simply tap the “hamburger menu” (the three horizontal lines on the upper-left corner), or swipe in from the left edge of the screen, to access the main menu. The sliding drawer has tabs that allow you to toggle between your Sites, Secure Notes, and Form Fill Profiles, plus an option to “Manage Shared Folders” for both LastPass Premium and LastPass Enterprise users. A Shared Folder helps you collaborate on projects and share passwords with spouses, friends, or coworkers. You can even edit and add a Shared Folder via the Android app, so if you’re on-the-go and your spouse needs to pay a bill, for example, you can easily drop that login into the Shared Folder to sync the password. The app settings have been grouped and reorganized, now available as “Settings” in the bottom of the navigation drawer. We’ve eliminated the longer list of settings, hiding more advanced items and simplifying the overall access to and use of important security options for the LastPass app, including the Security Challenge.

Vault First

We heard from LastPass Android users that they’d prefer the app default to the vault view, with the option to switch to “browser mode” for logging into websites, if/when they need to. So, with the launch of this app we’re putting the vault front and center again. When you log in to or launch the LastPass app, it will display the vault first (unless you were using the browser when you last closed the app). Because LastPass can autofill passwords to other mobile apps, and web logins in Chrome, you don’t have to interrupt your normal workflow on your smartphone. But if you still prefer to use the LastPass browser, you can tap on a site in the LastPass vault to use the “Launch” option or open the browser from the navigation drawer at any time.

Samsung Galaxy Gifts

We’re humbled to bring LastPass to the Galaxy S6 and S6 edge as part of the Samsung Galaxy Gifts program. With Galaxy Gifts, Samsung offers rewards from a host of world-class brands to make your mobile experience even more awesome.
