Mid-Year Check-In on Your Security Resolutions

Did your business set some cybersecurity goals at the beginning of this year? Maybe you wanted to implement a password manager company-wide, or you’ve long used LastPass and wanted to increase key security scores across the organization. You may have started the year with the best of intentions but, unfortunately, competing priorities and unexpected challenges may have derailed your carefully made plans. Now that we’re halfway through the year, it’s a perfect time to take a step back, evaluate what you’ve been able to accomplish so far, and refocus for the remainder of the year. Whether you’re just now evaluating LastPass or are a long-time admin, here are some tips for getting back on track with LastPass.

Be honest about where you’re at.

As you take stock, ask yourself the following about your access security goals for the year:

Where did you start the year?
What were you planning to achieve?
What have you accomplished so far?
What do you still want to complete – and is it realistic?

Maybe you were just starting out with a LastPass implementation, or you wanted to expand your existing use to more employees. Whatever your starting point, evaluate what you’ve been able to accomplish in the first half of the year, and what you’d still like to accomplish before the end of the year. Set your organization up for success with realistic goals.

Build a task force.

We’d love to say better password security is a one-and-done, but much like cybersecurity in general is requires regular reinforcement and oversight. If you don’t already have a group of people dedicated to overseeing the adoption and ongoing usage of LastPass, now is the time to create your task force. And they don’t all have to be IT admins. If you have employees that are LastPass “super-users”, recruit them to the task force to use their knowledge and enthusiasm in reaching other employees. The task force should meet semi-regularly and agree on action items that help achieve high adoption and strong security scores.

Use available resources.

Plan for October cybersecurity events.

Cybersecurity awareness and education is now a global initiative. Annual events every October include the National Cybersecurity Awareness Month (NCSAM) in the US, the European Cyber Security Month (ECSM) in the EU, and Stay Smart Online Week in Australia. Through all these initiatives, a wealth of resources and activities are made available throughout the month to help both consumers and businesses understand how to protect themselves and practice good cyber security. Take a look in advance and consider planning activities for your own company during October, including raising awareness of and providing ongoing training for LastPass.
