We sat down with Adrienn Kakai and Gabor Mihaly to chat about their engineering journeys at LastPass, the unique culture that motivates their work, and advice for future Passtronauts. Let’s dive in.
What do you do at LastPass and how long have you been with the company?
Adrienn: I’ve been an engineering manager since October 2022 of a backend platform team responsible for overseeing various critical functions, including managing the LastPass backend, data residency, internal administrative tools, and other core backend operations.
Gabor: I am a backend engineer, mainly responsible for the ALP backend (our internal 2FA solution), and I have also worked on some parts of LastPass backend.
What initially attracted you to LastPass?
Adrienn: The exceptional product on the market and the reputation of the unique work environment.
Gabor: The colleagues.
What’s your favorite part of your job?
Adrienn: Witnessing my colleagues’ pride in overcoming challenging tasks and participating in collaborative projects that impact cross-functional teams such as co-organizing a Hackathon, software license management, and enhancing the quality of our testing approach.
Gabor: Implementing complex features that involve most parts of LP and ALP (passwordless, FIDO2 and FIDO2 certification process).
What is your team like?
Adrienn: Our team is diverse in terms of seniority, location, and personality. We have seasoned employees alongside experienced long-tenured employees and great newcomers from the Hungarian countryside and Lisbon. What unites us? We always have each other’s backs.
Gabor: The core of our team has been working together for around 10 years and
we’re very close. Enjoying your own work is one thing, but the team around you is extremely important as well.
What’s the most important thing you’ve learned since starting at LastPass?
Adrienn: The wellbeing of my team is the key indicator of effective delivery, and everyone requires different types of support to thrive.

Gabor: Open and friendly people.
Which work benefit or perk is your favorite and why?
Adrienn: My favorite perk is the self-care days. As a working mom, I value these days to recharge my batteries and enjoy personal time. Having 12 extra-long weekends a year is amazing!
Gabor: Self-care days. Who doesn’t like time off?
What’s the best advice you can give to someone who wants to work for us?
Adrienn: Don’t hesitate to apply! Our unique work environment is filled with supportive, kind individuals who enjoy challenges and personal development. You won’t find this atmosphere anywhere else.
