Seamless Summer Travel With LastPass

Amber SteelJuly 11, 2022
Sunscreen? Check. Bathing suit? Check. Phone charger? Check. LastPass? Check! As you pack your bags and head out for a much-needed summer vacation, don't forget to take your password manager in your pocket, too. As COVID travel restrictions relax and folks venture further from home, planning for digital security and easy access from the road is essential. With a new save and fill experience on the mobile app plus the release of passwordless features, LastPass is easier than ever to use on your next trip.

Before your trip

Add LastPass to your pre-trip checklist, so your trip is smooth and worry-free, at least regarding passwords:
  • Scan your vault with the LastPass security dashboard and make sure your passwords are strong. Now's the time to replace weak, reused, or old passwords with new ones. Strong password security will reduce opportunities for hackers to gain access to your accounts while you're lounging poolside.
  • Upload copies of important documents like your passport, driver's license, payment cards, and health insurance. Make sure you have a digital record in LastPass of anything that would be difficult to replace. In the vault, create an item for each important document and attach images of the document.
  • Download the mobile app(s) if you haven't already. Not only will you have full access to all items stored in your LastPass vault, but you'll also be able to save new accounts that you may need to create while traveling.
  • Enable two-factor authentication so that you can get in while hackers can't. Enough said.
  • Set up passwordless access with the LastPass Authenticator app. Pairing your vault to the app only takes a minute and replaces the need for your master password. You'll have instant, secure passwordless access to the tens or hundreds of items in your vault without remembering and typing a master password.
  • Designate an emergency contact that can take over your vault in an emergency or crisis. Use the password sharing features to share passwords in advance that family, roommates, or coworkers might need while you're out of town.

While you're gone

Leave the password security to LastPass while you're relaxing and exploring. But, if you need to log in to an account or look something up in your vault, LastPass will be there.
  • Fill in logins or save new ones in your mobile browser. Like the desktop browser extensions, LastPass now saves and fills passwords in mobile Safari. The direct browser integration offers a seamless save and fill experience as you need to log in to accounts and capture credentials for newly created logins. Not on Safari? We're rolling out the same experience on Chrome and Firefox later this summer.
  • Use offline access when you don't have WiFi. A locally cached copy of your vault is stored and refreshed every time you use the mobile app or browser extensions. Should you find yourself without Internet or a data connection, you can still look up the information you need in LastPass.

When you're back

As you unpack your bags and settle into daily life, LastPass can help ease the transition back into your work and home routine.
  • Watch for unusual account activity, especially if you used unsecured WiFi or public computers on your trip. Look for unusual credit card charges, unprompted login alerts, password reset emails, account lockout emails, and signs of account takeover.
  • Update compromised passwords. When you doubt whether an account was compromised, please change your password with a new one generated by LastPass. LastPass makes it easy to generate a new password and replace the stored credential in your vault. And turn on two-factor authentication wherever available.
  • Use dark web monitoring to also monitor for credentials leaked in data breaches. Follow the instructions LastPass provides in any alerts you receive.
This summer, keep your memories and forget your passwords. Literally, with passwordless login to LastPass, you don't even have to remember a master password. From keeping track of your online accounts to upgrading your password security, LastPass makes password management a breeze. So take LastPass along on your next trip for worry-free password security on the go!
