Balancing Security Requirements and User Experience in the Future of Work
As organizations continue to grapple with the Covid-19 pandemic and shifts in cybercrime, our new global survey on identity and access management reveals that balancing security with user experience is the number one identity challenge for companies worldwide.  The IDC infobrief commissioned by LastPass, Enabling the Future of Work with EPM, Identity and Access Controls, looks at how organizations are coping - and what businesses should know about addressing identity challenges and risks of access management in today's work environments. With input from 700 IT and security professionals, we reveal critical insights on how enterprises can enable the future of work with Enterprise Password Management (EPM), Identity, and Access Controls.

An over-reliance on legacy solutions

Our survey found many enterprises are overly reliant on legacy solutions. Unfortunately, aging solutions have critical security gaps that expose organizations to the risk of a data breach, like mismanagement of credentials. In organizations that suffered a security breach, 83% stated cybercriminals leveraged an identity-related compromise such as phishing. This finding shows a clear need for organizations to adopt identity and access management solutions that work with end-users and promote the right security behaviors. Even when legacy solutions can't be removed or replaced, IT can address security gaps quickly and effectively.

Finding protection and convenience with EPMs

Password managers remain a valuable addition for organizations wanting extra layers of protection and user convenience. With deployment at 45% of respondent organizations, password managers are the most widely used identity and access management solutions.

Budget-friendly and simple? EPMs check the box

Organizations looking for budget-friendly, less complex solutions that deliver robust security for the hybrid work environment are leveraging Enterprise Password Management.  In the survey, which covered organizations with 10-999 employees, 45% of companies say that, while more complex identity solutions like SSO and MFA are "nice to have," they do not currently have the budget or resources for these types of solutions. EPM fills urgent security needs without straining IT departments.

Remote work driven by security trends

98% of respondents said that remote work impacted their security operations. Top reasons include: Inadequate security on home networks, remote workers targeted by cybercriminals, employees accessing corporate data/applications on inadequately protected devices, and poor password hygiene. Accelerating the development and rollout of applications and services can increase both security and convenience for employees. A password manager creates a universal and user-friendly solution for employees to securely access the tools they need to do their job effectively.  Download the IDC infobrief, Enabling the Future of Work with EPM, Identity and Access Controls, to learn more about how enterprises are coping with password management, identity, and access controls -- and how your organization can prepare for the future of security at work.
