Xfinity Password Reset Guide

Shireen StephensonPublishedMarch 19, 2025

Are you a satisfied Comcast customer? If so, an Xfinity password reset may be the last thing on your mind.

With Comcast planning to offer symmetrical multi-gig speeds to more than 50 million households, there’s plenty to look forward to.

Still, as you anticipate this new era of connectivity, there’s a huge elephant in the room: the rise of cyber incidents. Below, we show you how to perform an Xfinity password reset so you can keep your personal info safe from these attackers.

Xfinity Password Reset Guide

How to Reset or Change Your Xfinity Account Password

Follow these steps to reset your Xfinity password

  • First, you’ll need your Xfinity ID. This is typically an email, mobile phone number, or username. Prior to June 3, 2024, your Xfinity ID also served as your Comcast.net email handle.

Currently, new Xfinity IDs can’t be linked to corresponding Comcast.net email accounts. So, if you have a new Xfinity account, it’s likely you’ve listed a third-party email provider like Gmail, Hotmail, or Microsoft Outlook.

If you’ve forgotten your Xfinity ID (email or phone number), use the platform’s lookup tool to retrieve it.
  • Next, head to xfinity.com/password on your web browser. Enter your Xfinity ID and click “Continue.”
  • Choose the method to get your verification or reset code: email or text message.
  • Enter the reset code when prompted.
  • Create and confirm your new password. Be sure to comply with Xfinity’s password requirements: password length between 8-128 characters, at least one letter, and at least one number or special character.
  • Click “Continue” to complete the process, and you’re done!
  • Note: If you haven’t forgotten your password and are signed in, you can make changes by navigating to Account > Account and Identity > Your Information > Xfinity ID and Security > Security > Change Password

You can also reset your password by using the Xfinity app on your iPhone or Android device. Simply navigate to Account > Account Settings > Xfinity ID and Security > Change Password.

Finally, be sure to add verified password recovery options to avoid losing access to your account.

Resetting Your Xfinity Wi-Fi Password

That said, whether you’re updating your Wi-Fi settings or logging in to your account to access Xfinity services, you’ll want to ensure each password is strong enough to fend off any hijacking attempts.

Attackers often target weak passwords to hack home Wi-Fi networks or gain control of online accounts.

We highly recommend changing all passwords to protect your personal information and ensure your peace of mind (more on creating stronger passwords below).

First, check your router or gateway to find its password. If you’ve never changed the default Wi-Fi name and password, be sure to do so.

You should be able to locate the Wi-Fi name and password on a label at the bottom of your router or gateway.

If you have an Xfinity X1 TV Box, you can find your network name and password by using Xfinity Voice Remote. Press on the microphone button on the remote and ask, “What’s my Wi-Fi password?” to get the answer. Note that you can only view your login credentials with Voice Remote. To make changes, you’ll have to navigate to your router settings or sign in to the Xfinity app.

To find your router settings, type 192.168.1.1 or 10.0.0.1 in the address bar of your web browser. Log in with the default credentials and change them once you’re in.

You can also use the Xfinity app to access your Wi-Fi settings. Sign in with your Xfinity ID and password and then select “Wi-Fi” at the bottom of the screen. Finally, select your network and then “Edit Wi-Fi" to change the Wi-Fi name and password.

Avoid Forgotten Passwords and Stay Safe With LastPass

Let's face it: creating AND remembering passwords is a chore.

And while passwordless authentication is gaining more support at every turn, the humble password isn’t quite ready to cede its dominance in our lives.

Millions of us still use passwords, with 51% of us needing to input passwords at work six (6) or more times a day.

With nearly 50% of all cloud-based attacks attributed to weak credentials, creating stronger passwords is critical. Weak, default passwords make your Xfinity account and home Wi-Fi network easy targets for attackers.

With LastPass, you can easily and quickly create unique, robust passwords with our 100% free, customizable password generator

And you can simplify password management by saving all your login credentials securely in a password vault protected with military-grade encryption.

Still using your browser’s password manager? We don’t blame you: 72% of your peers will be using browser-based password managers in 2025. However, they lack key functionalities and protections such as:

  • Cross browser compatibility: While LastPass supports Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Safari, and Opera, a browser-based manager like Google Password Manager has limited functionality in browsers other than Chrome.
  • Powerful FIDO2-based MFA options: Unlike browser-based managers, LastPass supports biometric and security key authentication across all device types, browsers, and operating systems.
  • Continued compliance with high security standards: Unlike browser-based managers, LastPass has a bug bounty program and Compliance Center, which tracks in near real-time its compliance with global security standards.

With cyber threats intensifying, can you afford to rely on browser-based managers? To experience supreme peace of mind, take Premium for a free test-drive and see why millions of satisfied users worldwide choose LastPass.
