Make it easier to file your taxes this year

It’s tax season. Did you know LastPass can help? You already know that LastPass stores and remembers passwords for all your financial accounts – pay statements, 401(k), savings account. You name it, it’s in LastPass, making it easier than ever to complete your taxes online. But fast forward to when you’re all done and you have print out and save a copy of your final tax return. Even if you did print out the final version, where would you put it? Filing cabinets aren’t exactly modern. Enter LastPass Secure Notes. With Secure Notes, you can securely store encrypted versions of important information that isn’t a straightforward username and password. Think, your driver’s license, passport, insurance information – anything you might previously have saved in a filing cabinet or lockbox. And with LastPass, you can also add attachments to your Secure Notes, such as a copy of your passport. When it comes to your taxes, that means Secure Notes is a convenient, modern, and secure place to store your final tax return. Here’s how to create your “Taxes” Secure Note and add an attachment in LastPass:

1. From your vault, click the + sign in the bottom right of your screen, and select “Add Secure Note."
2. On the pop-up screen, you can enter all the relevant information, such as a name like “Taxes” and the type of secure note. There is no specific template for tax returns, so we recommend the Generic version so you can add any relevant information, such as your accountant’s name and phone number, or simply the name of the online provider you use to complete your return. Finally, you can place the Secure Note into a folder, such as Financials or Household.
3. Finally, you can add the attachment by clicking the paperclip icon. Select the final tax return from your desktop and it will upload to the Secure Note. Depending on the size of the document, it may take a few moments to finish uploading. When it’s uploaded, click Save.

The best part? You can attach multiple attachments to a note, so each year you can upload your latest tax return to your “Taxes” Secure Note. There are storage limits for attachments; free users have up to 50MB of encrypted file storage and Premium users have up to 1GB encrypted storage.
