Whether you need to reset your Khan Academy or Khan Academy for Kids password, this guide will reveal exactly what you need to do to regain access smoothly.
Parents and Teachers: The Khan Academy password reset mistake that could cost you hours of lost time
Parents: Have you ever experienced this? Your child wants to log in, but they’ve forgotten the password. You click “Forgot password?” and follow the prompts for a reset. However, your child is still locked out. Most parents don’t realize Khan Academy and Khan Academy Kids are separate platforms.
As a parent, you can reset your child’s password on Khan Academy directly from your dashboard:
- First, log in to your parent account.
- Click on your name at the top-right corner of the page and click “Settings.”
- If you’ve linked your child’s account, you should see it under “Child Accounts.” To see how to link your child’s account, see the Khan Academy for Parents Quick-Start Guide.
- Click “Settings” next to your child’s name.
- Scroll down and you’ll see the option to change their password. And that’s it!
If your child is younger than 13, you can change their username, gender, birthdate, primary language, and password. See the full list of settings you can modify.
Teachers: If you’ve accepted the Teacher Terms of Service, you can also adjust similar settings for your students.
In addition, you can view student progress and provide feedback on assignments if you’re added as a coach on student accounts.
However, if any of your students is younger than 13, has a parent attached to their account, and their “can add coaches” setting is OFF, that student won’t be able to add you until this setting is adjusted by their parent.

Tip #2💡: If you continue to experience password reset or login issues, you can submit a request ticket here.
Tip #3💡: If you use Khanmigo (Khan Academy’s AI teaching assistant), your password is the same as the one for your Khan Academy account. To reset your Khanmigo password, head to the Khan Academy password reset page.
Does Khan Academy offer MFA?
Although Khan Academy educates about the importance of MFA, it doesn’t currently offer MFA for account logins.
It’s likely the platform has chosen to prioritize a frictionless, inclusive login experience for its global audience, which includes young learners with varying degrees of digital literacy and access to cell phone services.
If you use third-party logins like Google or Facebook, you can enable MFA there - which indirectly protects your Khan Academy account.

Alternatively, you can use a Secure by Design password manager with MFA functionality to protect not just your Khan Academy account but ALL your accounts. In just a few moments, we’ll show you how.
LastPass: Your easy, safe, and affordable path to password and account security
Strong passwords are your first line of defense against unauthorized access to your Khan Academy or Khan Academy Kids account.
Here's what’s at stake if you fail to secure your accounts:
- PII (personally identifiable information) belonging to you, your child, or your students could be sold on the Dark Web.
- In turn, that PII could be used to commit identity theft, financial fraud, blackmail & extortion schemes, and even synthetic identity fraud.
- Student achievements, progress reports, lesson plans, or personalized learning recommendations could be erased or modified without your approval.
Ultimately, what’s at stake with a weak password is everything your world is built on: your privacy, your reputation, your achievements, and your ability to keep child or student data safe.
Free password managers like Google Password Manager and iCloud Keychain are convenient but they don’t offer the same security features and functionalities.
