Managing IT processes at scale can present unique challenges for businesses, particularly when it comes to controlling employee access and password behavior. When you’re managing hundreds or thousands of users, manually tracking changes and configuring options on an individual basis is no longer realistic. However, you still need to ensure that access is appropriate and secure. No matter how big your IT team is, automation is essential for ensuring the greatest efficiency within the organization, and the security of the business.
Today, we’re introducing an update to the Groups feature in the LastPass Enterprise admin dashboard that addresses some of these challenges. The updated design and new grouping options allow admins to manage and configure role-based policies and password sharing at scale, while saving valuable time and resources. Whether groups are imported from your Active Directory or manually created when you deploy LastPass, the updated grouping options will help admins effortlessly manage LastPass across the entire organization. Like the recent update to Reports, admins will see the update rolling out over the next few days.
Admins can manually create groups as they’re deploying LastPass, or existing groups can be imported from Active Directory. Groups are listed in alphabetical order by default, and once users are added, a total security score is calculated for each group. This allows admins to see at a glance if any particular group of users is under-performing compared to the company as a whole, and focus password security efforts on those groups.
Clicking a group name opens a right-hand drawer where the users in that group can be managed. Admins can also review the sites that have been assigned to the users in that group, as well as recent activity for those credentials.
In the details section, the admin can also review the policies in place for that particular group. Assigning policies on a group basis allows admins more flexibility and granularity in restricting access, especially for managing privileged access. For example, a customer care group may only be given corporate access from approved office IP addresses, while the executive team or traveling sales teams may be given broader permissions for accessing LastPass from out of the office.
Group management is critical for organizations that want to address employee password behavior and improve password security at scale. By being able to assign permissions on a group-by-group basis, admins can more easily create the custom security environment needed for their unique business and automate the systems that will better protect their business from threats.
Updated design for better usability
When you launch the admin dashboard and open the “Groups” tab, you’ll notice an updated design that reflects the ongoing improvements we’ve been making to LastPass Enterprise since the end of 2016. With a new design and more intuitive navigation, the Groups tab offers an improved user experience for admins.
