Quick: Which platform has 614 million registered worldwide users and just launched its own virtual currency (called Orbs) in 2025? If you guessed Discord, bravo! The platform’s UX and security features have made it the 5th most visited website on earth.
However, while Discord just ramped up support for 25 million members per server, your access depends on one little thing: a password.
If you’ve forgotten that password, our easy Discord password reset guide gets you back to enjoying your favorite channels in no time.
How can I change my Discord password if I forgot it?
If you’ve lost or forgotten your password, you can perform a password reset. Note that if you have 2FA or two-factor authentication enabled, you must enter a verification code before proceeding.
On desktop or mobile browser:
- Navigate to the Discord login page https://discord.com/login.
- Enter your email or phone number before clicking “Forgot Your Password?”
- You’ll see a popup informing you that a password reset link or reset instructions have been sent to the email associated with your Discord account.
- In your email, click on the “Reset Password” button and enter your new password on the next screen.
- After you’ve finished, click “Change Password” and you’ll be taken back into your Discord account.
Note: While the Discord Support team can’t reset your password for you, you can submit a ticket if you experience login issues.
Before you do so, however, check out Discord’s instructions on how to submit a ticket.
If this is your first time submitting a ticket, here’s a key fact you need to know: Your Discord Help password ≠ your Discord account password.
What this means is:
- You must create different login credentials for the Discord Help Center.
- You can’t use your Discord account password for the Discord Help Center.
- To view or submit tickets, you must specifically sign in to the Discord Help Center.
To sign in to the Discord Help Center for the first time:
- Tap the Sign In button at the top right corner of your screen.
- On the next screen, click Sign Up next to “New to Discord Support?”
- When a “Sign up to Discord Support” box appears next, enter your name and email address.
- Click “Sign up.”
- Next, head to your inbox and find the email with the subject line “Activate account for Discord Support” from support@discord.com
- In the email, click the blue “Activate account” link to set a new password for your Discord Help account. Use the LastPass generator to create a strong, unique password.
- After you set a password, you’ll be taken to your Discord Help account, where you can click “Submit a request” at the top of the page to get help with any Discord account login issues.
- Be sure to save both your Discord Help and Discord account passwords in LastPass to keep it safe from unauthorized access.
How long does it take to recover your Discord account?
The length of time for recovery varies, depending on your situation.
To many users, Discord is a place to have fun, share ideas, and perhaps, even form transformative relationships.
However, life has a way of being unpredictable, and there may be occasions when account recovery is needed. Below, we highlight the three (3) most common recovery challenges – and how long it takes to recover your account in each instance.
#1 You accidentally deleted your account: Did you experience a negative interaction that led you to hit the “Delete Account” button in frustration – only to discover a friend has set up a new server you’d like to join? If so, there’s good news.
Log in to your account within 15 days. You should see a dialog box informing you of your scheduled account deletion. Click “Restore Account” and you’ll be taken back into your Discord account.
#2 Your account was banned or disabled by Discord: Did you share game cheats/hacks or post content that violates Discord’s community guidelines? To recover access to a banned or disabled Discord account, submit an appeals request ticket to the Discord Trust & Safety team.
- On the appeals page, the “What can we help you with” field should be populated with Appeals & Age Update Requests.
- Under “How can we help,” choose either “Appeal an action taken on my account or bot” or “Appeal an action taken on my channel.”
- Fill in the Subject and Description fields.
- Attach a file if you wish, and then click Submit.
#3 Your account was hacked, and you’re locked out: Go to the Discord Help Center, sign in and click “Submit a Request” at the top of the page. Select “Hacked Account” from the drop-down menu and fill in the form.
Note: Be sure to provide the email address associated with your account before it was compromised. Otherwise, the Discord Support team won’t be able to provide the assistance you need.
In summary:
- The time it takes to recover a deleted account is about 15 days. Thia means that once you initiate deletion, your Discord account is in a “pending deletion” state for 15 days. After 15 days, your account is deleted from Discord’s system and can no longer be recovered.
- If your account was disabled by Discord, the time for recovery will vary, depending on your situation and the support backlog.
- Finally, if your account was hacked, the time for recovery will also vary, depending on your ability to verify ownership and complete account recovery procedures.
How to Get Your Discord Account Back: Is Access Without Email Possible?
What if you need to reset your Discord password but can’t remember your Gmail or current email login info?
Unfortunately, Discord doesn’t currently offer direct account recovery using just your phone number.
While the platform supports 2FA or MFA by SMS text, the Google authenticator app, passkeys, or hardware security keys, you’ll still need an email address to receive your password reset link.
Ultimately, if you can’t access the password reset link via email, submitting a ticket with the Discord support team is your best option:
- Head to the Discord support page and sign in. Click the “Submit a Request” link at the top of the page.
- Under the “What can we help you with?” dropdown, select “Help & Support.”
- Under “Type of question,” choose “Account Verification & Credentials.”
- Finally, enter something like “Lost Email Access -- Account Recovery Help Needed” in the subject line, describe your issue, upload any screenshots, and click “Submit.”
Never get locked out again: Let LastPass remember your passwords for you
If you’re on social media, you know how important strong passwords are.
Hackers target platforms like Discord because stealing YOUR password pays. According to a Security.org study, the average social media user loses anywhere from $180 to $85,000 from account takeovers.
And that’s not all: On average, 1.4 billion social media accounts are hacked each month.
Account takeovers have reached such frightening levels that 40 U.S. states have called on Meta to institute stronger measures against account hijackings.

Yes, Discord’s E2EE (end-to-end encryption) - called DAVE - was introduced in September 2024. With DAVE, audio and video calls are private for all participants. This means not even Discord can access media encryption keys or “listen in” on conversations.
To verify your voice or video call is end-to-end encrypted:
- On the desktop app: Open the Voice/Video details on the bottom left corner of the app. You’ll see a Privacy tab and a green lock icon indicating your call is “end-to-end encrypted.”
- On the mobile app: Find the green lock icon during a voice call by pressing the voice channel name in the top left corner of the focused voice call view.
The Privacy tab contains the Voice Privacy Code for each call. You can confirm privacy codes with call participants by pressing on their call tiles and selecting “View Verification Code.”
Be sure to confirm verification codes via another communication platform like text. After confirmation, select “Mark as Verified” to indicate successful confirmation.
As of 2025, Discord is only requiring IDs and age verification for users in the United Kingdom. This is to comply with the UK Online Safety Act, which requires platforms to enforce safeguards for young or underaged users.
If you’re in the UK, age verification is a one-time process, and it’s required to access age-restricted content.
