Coinbase Password Reset: Simplified Guide

Shireen StephensonPublishedMarch 25, 2025

Do you have a Coinbase account? If so, knowing how to perform a Coinbase password reset and protect your assets is critical. Below, we show you the easiest way to reset your password and five (5) ways LastPass can protect your Coinbase account from unauthorized access.

Coinbase Password Reset: Simplified Guide

How to Reset Your Coinbase Password: Step-by-Step Process

First, let’s start with WHEN you should reset your Coinbase password.

According to NIST, a password should be reset after a security breach. It’s also important to reset your password to meet password strength requirements (more on this below).

Right now, we’ll walk you through the easiest way to reset or change your Coinbase password

Reset your password while signed out

  • Enter your email and click “Reset Password.”
  • Go to your inbox. If you don’t see the password reset email, check your spam folder.
  • In the email, click “Choose a new password.” You MUST use a recognized device for the reset to avoid security restrictions for up to 48 hours.
  • Meet Coinbase password strength requirements: a minimum of 8 characters, both upper and lower-case characters, at least one special character, and at least one number. Ideally, a good password should turn the password strength indicator green and be ranked “Excellent.”
  • Be sure to enter your new password twice before clicking “Update.”
  • You’ll be prompted to sign in and complete two-factor authentication (by entering your 2-step verification code).
  • Alternatively, you can reset using your phone number. Choose “Reset Using SMS” to get instructions sent to your phone.

Reset your password while signed in

  • Sign in on a verified device.
  • Click on your icon at the top right corner of the page. On the “Settings” page, select “Go to Accounts” under “Accounts.”
  • Then, from the left menu, click “Security.”
  • Select “Update” next to “Password.”
  • Complete two-factor authentication (by entering your 2-step verification code).
  • Finally, enter your new password twice, and select “Continue” to confirm. That’s it, you’re done!

It’s important to remember that Coinbase supports a variety of 2-step verification methods and ranks them in order of security.

For example, it ranks SMS as “less secure,” while passkeys, authenticator apps, and push notifications are ranked as “more secure.” The “most secure” option is a security or hardware key: Coinbase recommends and supports FIDO2 security keys like YubiKey

Missing Password Reset Email

Didn’t get your password reset link? Here are five (5) things you can do:

  • Check your spam and trash folders for the email.
  • Review all tabs. If you have Gmail, check the “Social” and “Promotions” tabs.
  • Type @coinbase.com in your inbox search bar to locate all Coinbase emails.
  • Add @coinbase.com to your contacts or trusted sender list.
  • Contact your email provider to report any issues receiving emails from @coinbase.com.

Troubleshooting Password Reset Issues

Not sure the email you see is from Coinbase? Check out the safe list of Coinbase email addresses here. Remember that Coinbase never sends emails asking for your password, 2-step verification codes, or other sensitive info.

If you’re having trouble with your password reset, there could be another reason: you may be using an unverified device. Coinbase reserves the right to impose a 24-hour delay in processing reset requests from unrecognized devices.

Finally, if you’ve lost access to your email or password, call Coinbase Customer Support at these numbers. They can help with account recovery and password reset issues.

Avoid Future Password Issues with LastPass

Did you know that Coinbase recommends the use of trusted password managers like LastPass to protect your account?

Here are five (5) ways you can use LastPass to keep your assets safe:

  • Use our password generator to create all your passwords. We recommend a password length of at least 12 characters. Passwords that are sufficiently long and complex offer greater protection from unauthorized account access. And that’s not all. If you’re in the habit of reusing your Coinbase password, just one data breach can compromise ALL accounts with that password. With our password generator, you can easily and quickly create unique passwords for every account, on any platform. This significantly reduces your risk of account takeovers, identity theft, and the newest AI-based hyper-personalized scams.
  • Use our 24/7 Dark Web Monitoring feature to track your passwords. With LastPass, you get an immediate alert if your credentials are exposed on the Dark Web. And because your safety is our top priority, we provide Dark Web Monitoring FREE for both free and paid accounts.
  • Avoid phishing scams with our Autofill feature, which ensures your login credentials are only filled in on legitimate sites.

If you’re ready for a password manager that’s available anytime, anywhere, and on any device of your choosing, take LastPass Premium for a FREE test drive today.
